This year started off so promising and then we heard from a few friends that they were going through some really tough stuff. A very dear friend is currently undergoing treatment for myeloma and our daughters ex sister in law is being treated for signet ring cancer. Neither of these ladies deserve the cards that have been dealt to them.
Our friend is an older lady, extremely fit and healthy, sneezed heavily and hurt her back. Nothing helped for a few months until she had a scan and then wham bam the C word was mentioned and her life turned 360. She’s is receiving great treatment through the NHS, but has needed a special brace (a long journey to a specialist centre for measuring and fitting) it’s rather snazzy in pink leopard print ! She has nearly completed her mix of chemo treatment and has a plan for going forward. It’s changed her and her family's lives for ever.
Our daughters SIL had a bad back, and then suddenly had trouble breathing, resulting in fluid being drained from her lungs. She turns 50 this month, has two young boys and has already fought the C battle and won , only to be struck down again. How cruel is cancer and how do you find the energy to fight for a second time ? Fortunately living in NYC the treatments are faster than her in Blighty. She has started her treatment and this chemo means she won’t loose her wonderful long blond hair.
I had to visit my dentist for the prep work for a crown having broken my tooth eating pork crackling (lesson learned no more crackling 😥). I have an irrational fear of the dentist and so Mr P walked me up there and then returned home once he had made sure I went in. Yes I am that much of a coward. Anyway I remember nothing more until the following afternoon, yes over 24 hours wiped from my memory. I even asked Mr P if I had been to the dentist. Apparently I arrived home after a 15 minute walk and was obviously distressed and Mr P found me wandering around the house. He phoned the dental surgery asking for help and none was forthcoming, , he then rang our doctors surgery and fortunately they were more helpful. I was taken to the surgery and underwent many tests , poor Mr P was visibly upset when he explained all this to me. I had had a reaction to the local anaesthetic which must have entered my bloodstream, this can mimic a stroke/dementia symptoms. It’s taken 4 days for me to return to normal. I still have no memory of being at the dentists, let alone walking home, crossing a main road, being driven to the drs etc.
Life has many twists and turns, none of us know what is around the corner, so please live each day to the fullest. Don’t wait until tomorrow as tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
